Wildlife

Spotting kangaroos in the Kosciuszko Long Plain area of Kosciuszko National Park is a delightful experience, offering a chance to see these iconic animals in a stunning alpine environment. The best times to visit for kangaroo spotting are early morning and late afternoon when kangaroos are most active, grazing in the open grasslands. During the warmer months from October to March, you’ll find the vegetation lush and the weather favorable for wildlife activity.

Long Plain Road is a prime location within the park where you can often see kangaroos. Driving along this road, you’ll pass through expansive grasslands and open meadows, which are ideal habitats for these marsupials.

WHERE TO SEE A WILD ROO

THE BOSCOBEL COTTAGE

The Boscobel Cottage sits on the 180 acre farm of the Boscobel Estate. Run for over a century as a thoroughbred establishment, the now vacant pristine meadows of this property allow visitors an unparalleled opportunity to spend time with our native Kangaroos. Just 1.5hrs from Sydneys CBD, Boscobel not only is the closest from Sydney, but also has the highest chance of seeing a roo (we would say roughly 9/10 times).

CAVE BEACH, JERVIS BAY

Spotting kangaroos at Cave Beach in New South Wales offers a unique experience, blending the beauty of the coastline with encounters with Australia's iconic wildlife. Located in Booderee National Park, Cave Beach is renowned for its pristine beaches, lush forests, and diverse wildlife, including eastern grey kangaroos.

The best times to see kangaroos here are early morning and late afternoon, when they are most active, grazing, or resting in the grassy areas near the beach.

Visitors to Cave Beach often find kangaroos lounging on the sand or in the shade of nearby trees, providing excellent photo opportunities.
